XP Native Bluetooth Setup

Windows XP has native Bluetooth support. If your computer has
built-in Bluetooth or if you add a USB Bluetooth dongle, the native
support should work.

Many USB Bluetooth dongles come with a CD or web reference
for loading drivers and a control interface, Blue Soleil from IVT
corporation is vary common and works well.

When Blue Soleil is installed, it removes the XP native support
at some level, and it can be difficult to revert. So, before using
the CD supplied with your Bluetooth dongle to install drivers and
control, try the XP native support to see if it supports your USB
Bluetooth dongle.

Plug in your USB bluetooth dongle, and the "Bluetooth Devices"
window should appear. Click the "Add" button:

The Add Bluetooth Device Wizard comes up. Apply power to the
ScopeStuff Bluetooth adapter, and then click the "My device
is set up and ready to be found" button, and click "Next":

After several seonds of scanning, XP will find the ScopeStuff
adapter and list it here. Select the ScopeStuff device and
click "Next":

Enter the pass key or PIN from the ScopeStuff adapter label:

And note the com port or ports that were assigned. When two
com ports (outgoing and incoming) are listed, enter the outgoing
com port number in your astronomy software.

Note! If you plug your USB Bluetooth dongle into a different USB
connector on the computer, the com port assignments are likely to
change!

At this point you can make sure the ScopeStuff Bluetooth adapter
is connected to your telescope and powered on, and the telescope
is ready to connect remotely.

The blue LED on the ScopeStuff Bluetooth adapter blinks when it
is waiting for a connection, and is on solid blue when a connection
is established. With the XP native Bluetooth support, the LED blinks
until the PC application software actually opens the com port. So,
when you start your astronomy telescope control program and have
the port assignments set properly and then connect to the telescope,
the blue LED will stop blinking.
