LX200 Tripod Replacement Bolt
Installation Instructions

Removing the capnut and big knob from the original
(too short) threaded rod takes a bit of work and some
tools, as the factory uses thread lock compound on the
assembly. There easiest two ways to disassemble it are
by using force or heat or both.

The easiest way might be to take the assembly to an
automobile service station and suggest that it is really
hard to remove the cap nut. The 'really hard' part will
motivate them, and they have a big vice and an impact
wrench with a 3/4" socket that will get the nut off pronto,
but will leave the rod messed up from the vice jaws. No
problem, the old rod isn't much use anyway. The big knob
will generally then come off by hand with some effort.

The other way to remove the nut and knob is to clamp
the end of the rod in a vice, and heat the rod near the
knob with a propane torch until the glue softens. Have a
3/4" wrench ready to remove the cap nut, and some shop
rags to grip the big knob to remove it. Please don't burn
yourself, your house or your friends!

If these procedures are not familiar to you, get help from
someone who is familiar with the tools and hazards! That
is probably the guy missing a finger or two...

Assembly is much easier, the big knob and nut go back on
the new rod just like the original, but you don't have to use
any adhesive unless you prefer. The cap nut tightened
firmly against the big knob is generally enough.
